MOTd and new battery
Dragged the bike out of its winter lair now most of the salt has gone, the battery had died . New one in place and instant life, passed the MOT with an advisory on the suspension links. Liam the MOT guy says all bikes with these links are like that. Woo hoo , suns out and Im away for a decent run, i...

Re: Changing fork oil
Brilliant info shed monkey. Well put sir. the std headlamp brackets are sandwiched between the yokes and sit in rubber plugs if I mind right. Its tricky to get the legs back through the yokes without scratching them, try wrapping the top end narrow section with a bit of cling film to be on the safe ...

Re: Side stand wear, switch problem and my solution
Nice pics,
Ive had problems in this area, turned out the switch was coming loose.
It helps to grease the stand pivot now and again. If it does not pivot freely it struggles to make the switch.

Re: Info about buying used Raptor
Cant help with the TPS never done it on a FI bike. High Fuel consumption a few things affect this, bad fuelling , dragging brakes, bad chain, over tight chain, travelling at over 100mph, combination of all or some., Modern fuels give funny plug readings, old haynes type pics of clean running no long...

Re: Info about buying used Raptor
Not sure about the noise over bumps, better check the steering head bearings, get the front wheel in the air and see if there is any play at the steering bearing by pushing the fork back and forward. To check the suspension linkage the bike needs to be lifted and supported so the rear wheel is able ...

Re: Info about buying used Raptor
my original 2001 chain was toast by 5000 miles, your bike is the later model it is fuel injected so you can forget about the choke plungers, just checked the pics.

Re: Info about buying used Raptor
Congrats on the bike. Chain, stock is rubbish , change ASAP, you can run an ally rear sprocket and save weight , the gearbox sprocket wears out faster than the rear. Fuel consumption, I get around 45 - 55 m p gallon, or around 175 miles before the warning light comes on. A small fly screen will also...

Re: Fork plug - where I can get one?
I understand how the original got damaged , how I did mine.
Do not undo top pinch screw, use a bi hex socket, result mutilated alloy hex.
Lesson learned. The pinch bolt puts a fair nip on the top nut threads.
Since I had my forks maxtonised i have a spare unmolested top nut.

Re: PAIR removal works ! Thank you.
Quote "The pair system burns unburnt fuel in the exhaust, cos the engines are run rich to meet noise emissions. With it working, secondary detonations can occur in the exhaust system, but standard cans with their three pass system kill the bang. Fit aftermarket cans to a standard raptor, with t...

Re: Bike wont start :(
If it was running OK before the battery died it should run fine with the new one. Has your bike got carbs ( early Rap ) or is it fuel injected / later model? In your first post you say "It turns over a bit", suggesting to me any way that it was struggling, or am I reading too much into it....

Re: False Neutral
Check the gear pedal pivot is well lubed.
loctite will prevent the pivot centre from unscrewing, I nearly lost mine up a highland road after stripping to clean and lube.
