Re: Matris Fork Kit

As a side note my 71 BSA is getting fork mods that split damping duties between legs, Hi and low speed damping, comp in RHS , rebound in LHS, there wasnt enough to room to get both in each. Will find out how this goes soon. As for the Maxton works, although a bit spendy, everything else remains stoc...

Re: Removing linkage bearing seals?

Where there is pressure the spring goes towards it, not too critical in this application, I would put flat side out, spring side in.

Re: Matris Fork Kit

Stock Raptor forks are under sprung and overdamped, they are fine until you hit a washboard road surface, then the overdamping fails to let the forks respond properly, it wasnt till I took my old Norton out over the same roads as my raptor that i realised this. The Norton being dead smooth and the R...

Re: Matris Fork Kit

Maxton did my forks for about £400 years ago, re sprung and new guts, huge improvement.
Not a weekend job though , took ages, check for turnaround time.

Re: Removing linkage bearing seals?

I have done mine a couple of times, dont recall any real difficulty, if they are a bit stuck , heat will help, dunk in boiling water then press the seals out, dont pry, get a socket that fits neatly as the pusher and a big socket as the receiver, stick in vice and tighten , swap over for each side. ...

Re: Let's talk about exhausts

You can change the exhaust note and gain power with a cam swap, this wont upset your neighbours much but it will add power and get rid of the two C50s having a playfight in their pyjamas note. New inlet cams are fitted from an FI SV650, , the old inlets are used to replace the exhaust cams, retiming...

A good alloy welder can fix this if you still have the other bit. i had a break at the same spot, got it fixed locally.

Re: Back brake issues

if you succeed in bleeding it correctly and its still crap, then probably the master cylinder is faulty. its well documented, a new one sorts it out, i dont know why they were so duff, i couldnt find anything obviously wrong with mine but it was pretty scubby, I suspect the internal non return valve...

50 K miles review

Cracked half a ton on it earlier this year. Overall impressions, great bike, very reliable, it wears stuff out.Jist like most modern bikes. However it has a certain charm, a perky sense of devilment even,,it is a "bugger to go " as they say and doesnt like hanging around ,unlike most "...

Re: A guy in Sweden with his 650.

If you want to upgrade the bike heres my take. Handling, if you are not short fit different rear triangles to lift the rear a bit, helps cure headshakes, and feels better allround, top value. For about £400 Maxton will rework the fork internals , this is a good fix for the undersprung overdamped sto...

Re: Rear Caliper - Seals

650 brakes, same as a thou. I reckon all the original master cylinders ( rear ) had a type fault.
new ones seem OK, my rear has been fine since I changed the master cylinder.

Re: Apart from your Raptor do you have any more toys in the garage?

Had the BSA since 1981, not the stock tank, its off a later T140, fits right on.
It is the bike I have had longest, still compares well on handling, big skinny wheels , not fashionable, but they work so well.
