Double check that you have it adjusted so that the stand will clear the gear change lever and rear footbrake levers BEFORE you haul the bike off the ground!
As I recall, once the stand has been used once, it is only the gear change lever clearance that has to be checked.

The General or Main Relay
A short while ago DirtyDog posted non-starting 1000 which ended up focusing on the General Relay, as it's called in the Workshop Manual, also called the Main Relay on the circuit diagram in the Owner's Manual/Handbook. It is item 44 in the circuit diagram in the handbook: http://www.raptorchapter.or...

Re: Filler cap drain hole fix
Well done, Spooky, but I'm with JimBo. I posted something about twiddling a drill to clear that nipple some years ago – with the advice that it is a good idea to stuff a rag below the drill/nipple in order to catch the drill if/when you lose your grip on the drill bit (mine dropped onto the swinging...

Re: New mirrors
Nice setup  I see you have the bagster tankcover. Does the colour match the bike or is there a small difference? The bike came with the tank cover. It matches well enough but it's not perfect – certainly not an issue for me – but I don't know if they are even available any more. Having sa...

Sacrificial zinc anode in radiator – discussion topic (?)
A few years ago I had to replace the Rappie radiator. After wasting time and money on a "fix", which leaked, I was able to obtain a new one. At the time I found out that aluminium radiators only have an expected life of 8-10 years anyway. Mine gave out on schedule. Somewhere, I also came a...

Re: What coolant
I changed to red, but cannot remember why. Maybe it gave less corrosion for a given period: I was obsessing about that back then. Anyway, I've been googling about something related to radiators and coolant, and it does seem essential to be using distilled water. Oops. I just used tap water (I...

Re: Non starting 1000
Update: I did not cure the problem by cleaning off the gunge around the various connectors/fuses, so maybe "the gunge" was okay. Maybe I'd better put some new gunge back. The problem is still intermittent, so it looks like I'll have to dig into it properly. I'll try sussing out 'do...

Re: Non starting 1000
Short version: Scrub the relay socket connections, the relay spade connectors, and the fuses and fuseholder contacts with petrol to clean off the varnish-coloured grease/contact protection gunge. Long version: Can't tell from the thread whether you've fixed this yet, but I just had a similar (?) pr...

Re: Dry and Clear roads wished for all in 2015
Just checked in to see what's up. Rappies in hibernation. Too cold for the great outdoors and too much other stuff to catch up on. So I'll just wish everyone a belated Happy New Year. As the Irish say, "May the road rise to meet you." Not literally, of course  Here's a traditional s...

Re: Speed, RPM, chain and sprockets calculator
Err… well, I did buy the sprocket but still haven't fitted it (I just tell myself that I'm saving it for a special occasion :( ). My personal view is that the lowest gears are pretty low and one extra tooth may be interesting, given the flat torque curve of the 1000 above 3000rpm. If I ever get arou...

Re: Bar end mirrors and Renthal bars
Here is what they look like in place (tucked-in mode): P1040755_2_2.jpg P1040756_2_2.jpg Not exactly elegant, but when turned outward they are mostly too wide for most traffic conditions, IMO. And with the lollipops gone there goes "Mr. Sensible" as well… Note the designer anti-slip seat d...

Re: Bar end mirrors and Renthal bars
That leaves the original mirror fixing threads exposed and empty and you have a loose front brake reservoir to support. NB: the thread is M10 but with a fine thread. I have yet to shorten them, but I obtained a couple of stainless steel socket button screws from Stig Fasteners: http://www.a2stainles...
