Re: Leak from bottom of petrol tank
For the ethanol discussion: http://www.raptorchapter.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=3864&start=15 I haven't checked lately (maybe I should!), but I found that BP Ultimate was ethanol free back then. Oddly, Murco was also ethanol free. As for Shell (page 1 of the thread)… Shell: "The amount...

Re: New to Raptors
Speaking of water in the tank, check that the drain under the fuel filler actually drains fuel and is not blocked or else rainwater is retained and gets into the tank when you go to fill up. My drain was blocked and it was a pig to unblock (by twiddling little drills upwards by hand and the bloody t...

Re: New to Raptors
For reassurance, you may find the video of the TPS setting for a TL1000 instructive: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NQMqN_7zL2M I also seem to have bookmarked these under TPS, FWIW: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AvK-5aQuhNs http://wotid.com/tls/content/view/54/60/ PS: This query seems to be in two ...

Re: Problems with adjusting chain tension..
Admittedly, this is a long shot, but are you tightening the spindle nut enough? The Raptor 1000 manual specifies 100Nm. I bought a torque wrench specifically for this and it is quite a pull on a 17-inch long lever to get that to click over. In fact, I'm constantly surprised that it doesn't strip the...

Re: Rear brake master cylinder information, raptor 1000 and
Thanks Bear, great write up! That elbow joint you've taken off looks similar to the ones they were talking about for clutch reservoirs recently, so I would have been worrying about internal circlips, thanks for the great pics. Aw. Shucks. Thank you. Ian Edwards, mentioned in the initial pos...

Re: Rear brake master cylinder information, raptor 1000 and
Update: Parts arrived a while ago. I've attached a picture showing the cylinder, the straight stub and its grommet, and the 0.5m of tube and the two tube clips. P1040632.jpg Removing the right-angled inlet wasn't too difficult once I'd figured out that I needed some leverage and to avoid damaging th...

Rear brake master cylinder information, raptor 1000 and 650
I'm in the process of attending to the leaking rear brake master cylinder on my year 2000 Raptor 1000. This is just to put down some information that I've garnered for the UK. From some previous post, I was led me off to the Suzuki forum and thence to a couple of US suppliers: http://www.oppracing.c...

Re: Help , what is this connector/sensor for?
Those wires look as if they are intended for fairly high currents. The Safety System is described starting on G13 of the manual, the page after the one showing the overall Starting Circuit (the screenshot above). It seems to me that, with the gears in neutral and the side stand down, the injection r...

And a Happy Christmas from me, too, everyone. http://viewerscommentary.files.wordpress.com/2011/12/snoopy-christmas.jpg Been doing the occasional lurking here, but now just waiting for Spring. Put the Rappies away in late October, both in a garage, wrapped in big sheets of heavy duty plastic, all ta...

Re: someone remind me how to adjust the chain
Check with L6 in the Workshop Manual. That rear wheel spindle torque is 95/100 N-m , BTW  I assume that's with dry threads (cue discussion? I hope not! ) I had to buy a big torque wrench just for that. And it's always a relief when it clicks without having stripped the thread. It's ...

Nice. Leaves me feeling a little inadequate though.
And the photographer did well, too.
If the actual photo was taken horizontally and this is a cropped shot, and the posts in the background are actually upright, the lean in the original photo must be quite something.

Re: Hydraulic motorcycle workbench. Because you deserve it.
Quick update: the rate at which the hydraulic ram closes/workbench falls is adjustable but the adjustment is what I would describe as "coarse". About 20-ish degrees of adjuster rotation made the difference from the delivered setting – a drop fast enough to make me hold onto the bike tightl...

Re: led headlight
fitted led bulb now, not a quick job on a vraptor, the big rubber boot on back of the headlight needs slight moddification so it does not restrict the air flow from the small fan on the bulb. initial impresions are very good light output, it is a white light not slightly blue or yellow, beam patter...
