Bon Scott was from Kirriemuir ( he was 3 when he left Kirrie), your life may be in danger! Forfar was once self sufficient in Bridies, Brogues, Ladders and had its own foundry amongst ither things. I am not technically a loon , but I am a teuchter fae Wellbank, though schooled in Farfar toon. The le...

Re: Sacrificial zinc anode in radiator – discussion topic (?
From Forfar Academy chemistry lessons ( well done Mr Gibb) The table for reactivity is Magnesium Aluminium Zinc Iron Tin MAZIT for short Most reactive at the top. So to protect an Al engine block your sacrificial anode would need to be magnesium. Anything below Al will make the corrosion worse. The ...

Back on the road
Motd , nae bother, 50 K miles coming up soon, the wee beauty sat for a year and started up with no battery top up and on old fuel. Had a minor trauma removing the back axle to change tyres, the alloy dymag centres had become a bit too friendly with the axle, came good in the end, didnt even have to ...

Re: Dizzyblonde and her numpty corner mechanicking questions
Before going further with the gear change, lift the bike so the back wheel is off the ground, have someone spin the wheel while trying to select all the gears. If this doesnt allow selection of all the gears you will need to start looking at the selector mech, on the 650 Sv motor there is a circlip ...

Re: Urms Rap
I dont think that was vibration , probably the bike fell over and stressed the casting, it might not have broken straight away, but it remembered the knock and broke eventually.
I have a bent/ broken one the same somewhere.

Re: 70 mph+ a nono
I really dont think it is the throttle cables, first I would check for water in the fuel, dump all the existing fuel and have the float bowls drained if it is the carbed model. If fuel injected , try running some injector cleaner through the new fuel.

Re: 320mm brake discs
i dont think bigger discs are a good idea, they will slow down the turning of the bike and increase the unsprung mass. I fitted a radial MC to my 650 ages ago, it does improve feel, in order to use the stock lines I needed an adaptor and a banjo fitting bolt with a brake light switch. I have no issu...

Re: Rear Brake and Speedo woes/ PARTS
On the thou the speedo pick up lives behind the sprocket cover , not so on the 650 it is part of the rear calliper bracket. It is worth checking the speedo pickup wires where they join the main loom behind the RHS side panel beneath the fuel tank, check the connector block has no corrosion. I think ...

Re: Rear Brake and Speedo woes/ PARTS
Ive had my share of brake woes, if the brake stuck on there is a very good chance that you need a new master cylinder and maybe new rear calliper. I am pretty sure there was some sort of type fault with the original as fitted master cylinders since so many owners have reported this fault. The origin...

Re: Steering shakes at high speed
When I fitted the "baines " link dog-bone which raised the rear end a little there were several instant benefits. The bike felt more planted in general ( that "on rails" feeling when taking sweeping corners), accelerating uphill on a bumpy road surface no longer produced head sha...

Re: Need your opinion !
When i first got my Raptor about 10 years ago I called Baines and discussed handling improvements, the nice man was very helpful and sold me a different rear dog-bone which lifted the rear a tad and helped stabilise the plot when accelerating over bumps. They may still have molds, worth a phone call.
