Exhaust header seals

Post by nickst4 »

I'm talking about the header-to-cylinder seal here, and am curious about the items advertised for the Raptor1000 on ebay/uk. Most of them show an Athena-brand ring and specify dimensions of 55x65x5mm which, if the largest is meant as the outside diameter, is about 10mm too big! I wondered briefly whether we had a smaller exhaust port on our engines, but reference to items for Suzuki TL and DL 1000 show the dimensions of 53x45x5 as per my Raptor 1K at least. Is this just a case of a repeated misprint or another of those wrongly-specified items that often show on ebay? I'm thinking of headlamps for the Raptor and bulbs for the Gran Canyon...

Nick, getting ready to assemble my polished exhaust!

Hi, so far as i recall TL1000 ones work but are not identical, Snapdragon used to have a spare or 2 and might be able to measure them. Anyone else got original stock and a ruler?

Wemoto seem to stock them... http://www.wemoto.com/bikes/cagiva/v_raptor_1000/00-04/

Nick, did you ever get the correct sized manifold seals?

Earlier in the year I ordered a pair from wemoto which didn't fit either & they were 55 x 41 (ish). So I just used the original with a good blob of exhaust sealant gunge and so far they haven't given any trouble.

The listed Suzuki part number for the TLS, TLR & SVS is 14181-31D00-000 but even with the magic of the web I can't find their dimensions.

I'm pretty sure I found new seals intended for the TL Suzy, but have no receipts to tell me where they came from: some ebay sellers are like that. There's a chap on ebay who specialises in exhaust seals and it could have been him, but I agree that many supposedly-Raptor ones are deffo the wrong size. Keep looking, or if you don't need to re-align the pipes for some reason and need the resilience of new seals, I go with high-temp silicone which works very well. Old-fashioned exhaust cement is rubbish because it cracks and blows out. You need something that can stand vibration.
