1000 speedo PCB

Post by Esmerelda »

Hi I have a 1000 with KPH speedo, that I would like convert to MPH. I do not really want to use a speedo healer :snooty: . Would anybody have either decent photo of the PCB from a set of MPH clocks from a 1000 or a damaged PCB from a set of MPH clocks. I feel sure that pcb is basically same for all models but with different jumpers soldered in to trigger the different display functions.

Best Regards

Awe, come on

surely some one can help with this ? If we can sort out a fix it would mean an end to horrible Dymo tape MPH stickers and speedo healers, just one photo of the back of your clocks withe cover removed.

I will share the fix wth all when it's sorted :ride:

Hey Esme, there's probably only a few here with MPH clocks, and getting into the instrument panel on the Vs and Xtras is supposed to require the removal of the front forks! There is a slight shortcut documented over at http://www.raptorchapter.org.uk/viewtop ... =16&t=4249 but have a look at that and you'll see it's not a 5 minute job. Sorry for the lack of any useful help here, but I guess most folks have bikes with the appropriate gauges for their country.

Hi, no mods, just plug n play. I think I have a spare set I could swap with you. I'll check and get back to you.

Sorry for the delay, I have just dug out my "stock clocks" and taken a couple of shots, problem is, I'm not sure if they are MPH or KPH, I have put a red highlight around the links that I think control the conversion.

I will try to strip the front end of the Xtra soon to check the clocks I have fitted, that do read in MPH.

Hi Miz

Sorry for not responding before I have been heavily distracted by another (ZRX1200 :revrev: ) Thank you for the Photos.
The area that you have highlighted appears to be the same layout as my KPH Clocks :x, however I have a theory surrounding a small group of links labelled up as "Variation" there are 4 pairs of pads in a cluster located along side the four bulb holders, on my KPH clocks 001 is linked by a 0 ohm resistor in your photo link 002 is linked by a 0 ohm resistor now it could be that the 650 uses 003 or 004 (mph/Kph) . I will try removing the link from 001 and try soldering a link to 002, I think it will also require some kind of reset to poke the main chip on the board and start it using the MPH section of its stored programme :suspect: any thoughts?

Best Regards

I know this is an old thread but I thought I'd let you all know my experiences.

My recently-bought 1000 has some kind of speedo healer fitted, together with the ugly dymo tape MPH sticker inside the fascia of the speedo. I thought I'd have a go at converting it to MPH using the links in the post above. When I examined the links I could see no traces connecting them to anything. I suspect that they are there merely as a visual indication to someone looking at the board, and that the actual MPH/KPH mode setting is done in software.

To confirm this I desoldered the 'Variation' link from position 001 and put it in 002. The speedo is unchanged.

I did read this post http://raptorchapter.org.uk/viewtopic.p ... nks#p23827 which suggest to me that the dealers would have been able to do it using a diagnostic computer, so perhaps that is the only way.
