Rear brake pedal wanted

Post by Daylights »

Hello :) I'm looking for a rear brake pedal for my Raptor 1000, seems impossible to find. This shop sells them for the 125cc:

On the drawing it looks the same, will this fit my 1000?

Hmmm now that you mention it, I was already surprised about a 250cc Raptor

Well, if anyone else has one laying around?

Is the pedal broken or just bent?

Repairs are very possible. My Cagiva Alazzurra has had a Lumiweld repair on it for a very long time and is more than strong enough for the pressures involved. Otherwise, alloy castings can be eased back to straight with the careful application of heat. Remove the lever and put the boss in a vice. Coat the bent section with a slurry of soft soap and heat with a decent flame until the soap goes black, then slip a pipe over the end and gently bring the lever back to straight. If the bend is severe, you may do better to repeat the heating rather than correcting the bend all in one go. I've used this process many times!

Of course, your problem might be in wear to the drillings, but a spot of bushing is easy enough.

These fixes might not be necessary for a common bike, but we are talking hens-teeth here...

Thanks Nick! Is is (very) bent and also scratched, I was already planning on trying to straighten it with a blow torch. I am preparing for the fact that it might be too bent and may break in the straightening process, so that is why I started a search for a replacement part.

Bare with me, I'm Dutch... what do you mean by "Of course, your problem might be in wear to the drillings, but a spot of bushing is easy enough."? :|

I wish my Dutch was as good as your English! Since you didn't specify what was wrong, I just wondered if your problem was wear in the bore of the lever pivot, or in the hole in the end that takes the linkage to the master cylinder. Not so: just the usual bent lever...

Thanks for the compliment Nick :) Today I'm going to make a first effort on straightening it, I'll keep you posted!

Bending went easier than I thought it would be, as long as you apply enough heat it suddenly starts to move quite freely to where ever you'd like it to go.

As you can see, I am surprised it didn't snap:

So with a blow torch and a wrench to move it...

It's straight and strong again
