radical suspension upgrade

Post by vassilis67 »

I am changing front forks and swingarm with the aprilia mille ones.Forks are the Showa ones- Ohlins are very expensive - at least they are fully adjustable.Rear shock will stay the same till i have the money to buy a Wilbers.

A lot of details have to be decided, handlebars, footpegs - i have already decided about the exhausts, it's a pair of Laser GP - surely loud but very good looking.

Stay in touch, i will inform you on the progress of the operations, any suggestions welcome.

Great job so far :D :D
Would you mind give a more detailed step by step instruction on fitting the RSV swing etc. Including pics.?
That would be most interesting, and there is not much else going on on the 650 page...

Tell me, what yearmodel is your bike?

Kepp up the good work and keep us updated please!
Cheers!

The bike is a 2008 model.
i got the idea when i bumped into this http://www.kunstverglasungen.de/Raptor during a search in the net.Good description and goog pics although in german.
My swingarm was prepared by Yannis who is a greek mechanic now living in holland http://www.adrenalinejunkies.nl.
The next step is fitting the Laser Gp exhaust which is loud - as they say - but it is very good looking. Of course i 'll get rid of the dreadful footrests.
For the other end i have a complete tuono set of showa forks, the discs fit exactly to our wheel and our brake calipers fit exactly on the forks.
Anyway there is still a lot to be done. I 'll keep you informed.

Vassilis,

Would the Tuono forks be a direct replacement then? Are you saying all our running gear ie wheel and calipers etc will bolt directly onto the new forks.

I am looking at upgrading my front end as its far too soft.

What year are the forks?

I realise your running a 650, but i think that the rest of the running gear is the same isn't it?

Cheers,

Si

This is a raptor 1000 with a pair of mille-tuono showa forks. The guy used the raptor yokes - drilling the upper one which is 50 mm in diameter, to 53mm to fit the forks- and using a 0.5 tube spacer for the lower yoke (which is 54mm) to match the 53mm diameter of the forks.
The wheel is the raptor one, the brake calipers too, the discs are some mille aftermarkets, they fit to the wheel exactly. He told me he had to modify the wheel axle but i don't know how he did it.

What i am going to do is use a complete tuono front, with yokes and all - but i don't know if the stem (correct word?) will fit to the raptor or i will have to find out how to fit the raptor stem to the tuono yokes.

This way you need to fit mille discs or use adapters to the calipers.

Anyway i am on holidays right now so the project will take some time - i am waiting for the mille discs too.

As for the 650-1000 case, i think they are alike except for the engine.

Do you think i should paint the rear rim gold or the front rim grey?
