Tacho stopped working

Post by angryziber »

My tacho suddenly stopped working last year after a heavy rain.
I see the speed and other LEDs are ok, but tacho gauge is at zero no matter what the RPM is.

I think the MCU is allright because there are no problems with how the engine works (and it needs the RPM reading to work properly).

During the winter I have opened the dashboard and there was a burnt resistor on the PCB that I have replaced, but it didn't help.

Anyone knows how to debug the motor that controls the gauge - what are the correct voltage readings, etc?
Maybe it is a simple problem that I could fix with my soldering iron...

The only thing i can suggest is check for continuity from ecu to meter the wire you are looking for is marked G/GR (unfortunately my copy of the manual doesnt work for the colour conversion but it could be giallo/grigio yellow/grey) and it goes from the end pin in plug 1 (centre of ecu) and goes to pin 14 again G/GR on the speedo socket. But ive never had the speedo open. Also check for water getting into the sockets.

Something else may have blown on the pcb and overloaded the resistor.

There is a speedo for sale in italy but a bit dear.

RPM is given by rear cylinder ignition coil... check the connections in there!

Mine goes everytime it rains too.
Check the black wire on the back brake caliper for a break.
Just tape together again.
Seems a known problem, gets kinked when your back brake pads are getting changed.

That will give you mph or km\h not rpm.
