Newbie Questions

Post by Fishtigua »

Hello from sunny Guernsey. A few questions I hope members can help with.

I've just bought a blue Raptor 650. The fuel tank was full of water, is this a common problem?

While the water sat there, it's eaten into the carbs and even rotted a hole into the float bowl of one carb. Which replacement carbs (SV ones off ebay???) should I be looking at?

Final question. Where's the best place to get a new clutch cable?

Look forward to hearing back from those with Raptor experience.

Cheers

If you have a look under the tank there's a little spigot that a hose attaches to. It's where the water that gets in around the fuel tank cap drains out and any fuel if you over fill it. The hole in that spigot corrodes and ends up clogging up so the water can't drain away from the fuel cap and ends up seeping into the fuel tank. I just removed it, I think it's a 14mm spanner to undo it. I will get a nylon or plastic one turned up on a lathe eventually.

2003 they went to fuel injection on the SV650 motors so you want the '99 to '02 model carbies. SV650 clutch cable should fit your bike, just take your original cable in and check the ends and length are the same. You may find that item 17 on this page is also worn out, I thought it was the clutch cable on my bike and it ended up being this. http://www.cmsnl.com/suzuki-sv650-1999- ... ml#results
