Torque, Nuts and Manuals

Post by Runs With Scissors »

Hey,
Has anybody else noticed this?
The owners manual that came with the bike has a major error in the torque setting for the sump plug

The figure is correct for the 'other' languages.... but in the English section it has 39 ft-lb. :!:
That's a hell of a lot of force for a sump plug!

The Italian language section says 23Nm... which converts to about 16 ft-lb.
That's more like it 8)

I've only jut noticed this because, after 30 years of tinkering with bikes, I've only just bought a torque wrench :D
New tools are fun... but I'm glad I listened to my gut on this one.
If you aren't living on the edge you are taking up too much room.
