Starter Problem

Post by Leeboy »

After being left over last(very cold)weekend my raptor wouldnt play ball monday morning.
Jsut getting a click sound from underneath the seat.
Now i tried shorting across the solinoid relay to see if that would start it and nothing.
Tried the battery after a 24 hr charg and garage test and nothing.
Tried sticking it in a high gear and pulling the bike back till the starter motor turned and still nothing....
What kind of price are we looking for to repair this starter motor?
Would it be cheaper to buy a new one(price) ?
taxi's are costing me a fortune.

Try a different battery, even though you have charged it, if it is knackered it won't take a charge..

Turned out the starter motor was destroyed.
Got a reconditioned one put in,been fine since.
But lets carry on......
Now i am getting a knocking noise coming from my rear wheel.
Speeds up and slows down depending on my speed.
Chain was super tight for some reason so losened it.
Knocking has died down now but it has slowly started to return but the chain is still loose though.
do you think i have done something to the chain,or maybe the sprockets(they both look fine?)

If you can work out the frequency of the knocks it may guide you.

In other words is it one for every revolution of the front sprocket OR the rear wheel OR each pass of the chain?

Do you have a tight spot in the chain ?

Have a look at rear disc they tend to crack. Also any play in rear wheel bearings or suspension? is exhaust loose? but also what everyone else said. Good luck

Ahh I thought that was just on the 1000?

I'd put 'knocking' down to a hooked front sprocket, but if you've fully checked them both I guess it can't be, hmm i've never had knocking caused by goosed bearings, but if they're proper goosed it could be I s'pose

If the chain has been "super tight" as you say, you may have a few stretched links. The knocking could be the links dropping into the sprocket, in the areas where the chain is maybe now a slightly different pitch.
If i were you i'd get the back wheel off the deck and give it a good few spins forward then backwards, all the time watching closely the point at which the chain goes onto the sprocket. If the chain tries to "ride up" the sprocket teeth at any point, you really need to replace the chain & sprockets.

Maybe your chain was mounted and over tigthened so that it crushed the bearing cup at one spot.....

Good luck
