I've found

Post by JimBo »

I've decided to treat the old girl (the bike not the wife) to a new battery.
I've experienced rough running and sometimes a failure to even turn over.

However, on doing a test with my trusty meter I've found 12.4 volts at the battery with engine off
BUT, only 12.1 with the engine running at about 2000 rpm.

I'm fearing the worst with a reg/rec failure. Please tell me it isn't so! :(

Reg/Rec not a bad thing, likely http://www.electrexworld.co.uk/ will find one for you .. but I've had reg/rec fail on Pegysu and nothing worked, whereas IIRC varying voltage was happening when the batt was on the way out on Rappy, so my guess is just you might needs a new battery

:? maybe

12,4V for the battery is way too low and surely needs change.Everything under 12,8 is not acceptable.
I suggest to try and change the battery first and then if you have any problems check it further.

I'm happy to report it was only the aged battery that let my beloved (bike not wife!) down.

Reading 12.8 idle and 13.8 active, lights on @ 5000rpm. Raptor workshop manual advises not less than 13.3 and not greater than 14.3, so how much more in the middle can you get than 13.8?

Thanks for all your comments.
