Starting problems
Starting problems
Hi can someone help me?
My V Raptor will only start if I have the side stand up, if I try with it down as soon as I pull the clutch in the 5 pin relay under the seat starts buzzing and wont stop until I switch off and with the stand down the dash wont come on!
Im sure it used to start ok with the stand down!
Please someone help me!!!!

Re: Starting problems
I would say you have a dodgy earth or connection somewhere is the safety circuit.
Check each component in turn for correct operation and continuity, you will need a multimeter or equivelant.
If it starts fine with the sidestand up then that would be the wisest place to start your inspection and test.

Re: Starting problems
Mine starts ok with the sidestand down , +1 above, sounds like one of your relay or sensors is on the blink
Re: Starting problems
Remember to put neutral before starting... Might be too obvious solutin.

Re: Starting problems
Thanks for all the suggestions will try checking all the switches and earths.
Yes the neutral light is on but only when the stand is up, think theres a wiring diagram in the workshop manual?
Thanks again all BRV

Hi, from what you describe, I would have a look at the gear switch or the safety module, but I think it will be the gear switch.Big red V wrote:55 years agoThanks for all the suggestions will try checking all the switches and earths.

Re: Starting problems
there must also be a problem with the vehicle safety diode block or wiring to it and it is grounding the neutral light through the side stand switch allowing the other side of the diode pack to go +ve and then no current flows to the relay

Re: Starting problems
This is confusing (yes I know it's a natural state for me)
What has happened between the last time you used the bike, and the current problem?
Has any work been done (causing something to be loosened?)
Could the bike have been interfered with by a third party?
Are you certain-sure it's in neutral?
Otherwise has something been unplugged and plugged in about face, causing the safety to activate inaccurately and the neutral light to stay off?

Once again I'd like to say thanks for all you're help and I'll let you know what it was once Ive got it sorted.
I'm just hoping its not the safety control box itself

Re: Starting problems
when the neutral light is on and the sidestand is up is the light a bit dim?

Re: Starting problems
Dont think the neutral light is any dimmer!
Ive tried looping the side stand switch, the dash and everything came on as it should , engine started with clutch in then ran with clutch out , but as soon as I selected a gear engine cut

Re: Starting problems
Well if you have shorted the sidestand switch and it cuts out when you select a gear then its either the neutral switch or the Safety switch.
Short the neutral switch to see if that fixes it, if it does the switch is U/S
If it doesnt then its the safety switch with the two diodes in. There is a recent thread about this unit and how to get a spare safety switch but they could easily be make for only a few quid to be honest.
Check out the diagram it makes it clear.
