New owner , Rainy Devon.

Post by marcus,c »

Hi all, just joined having bought a raptor 1000 , hoping to put some carbon open pipes on if i can find some for sale.. One issue i have with the bike is poor paint on the tank due to bubbling in surface ,i wouldn't mind changing colour from red to carbon effect but not sure what's possible . Anyway hi to everyone from Damp Devon .

Hi there, welcome aboard.
I got bubbling on the first tank I had. It appears that it was petrol seeking it's way out, due to perhaps not being sealed properly before painting.
I bought a new tank.
Now that needs respraying because I had a fight with a fuel spill out on the road. Nice lorry driver probably overfilled and it spilled out on his way from the station.

I've thought of vinyl wrap. Saw it on wheeler dealers recently!
Undecided...

Welcome in :D hello from not un-wet wiltshire
hot buttered Rum please

yes Dizzy^ does know about tank bubbles.

can't help with cans mine are standard V versions

Ace Of Sprays in Bristol made my paint look like scales, so I guess making it look like carbon is possible too

Hi there,

If the paint is bubbling on the tank I would recommend you buying another one and having it painted. Buell's suffer from this and even after being repainted they tend to bubble up again.

Yeah they did a good job with that, cheaper than Plastidip probably.

Hi Marcus.

Glad to have you around. Sorry to hear about the weather in Devon. We don't bother to use the term 'Rainy Lancashire' up here as it's a given. A bit like describing a giant as 'big' or a Nissan Micra driver as 'slow'. You can just assume that it's wet up here.
