Steering Damper.

Post by att »

Having now got more confident with my V Rap. I have decided that it would most definately benefit from a damper......It don`t like the bumps too much on quick corners, had a couple of "moments"....Don`t really want a final one!
Anyone done this?
Where can I get one?

Thanks muchly in anticipation.

Got a "sprint" mounted under the headlight on my V and works OK but masks the underlying problem that the forks are basic and need internal work if your pushing hard on bumpy stuff. If I had my time again i'd put the money into the forks rather than a damper (it also hits the front guard when being stupid on landing  I notice the newer raptors have a dent in the guard for this reason)

Hi att

I agree with Shlockengronk, for a lot less cash you can buy some springs ,oil and play a bit with the preload.
When my forks were standard it felt like I really needed a steering damper
too!
With new progressive springs, 10w oil and 26 mm static sag it now is much better!
It can still get a bit "lively" over very fast small bumps but nowere near as bad as it was before.
The money I saved with this will be a contribution to a new rear shock :)

it's better to cure the cause of the problem than the symptoms

I am all for the root of the cause, not the symptoms.....You are on the money there...I recall someone saying to me that the forks would take adjustable Kawasaki internals, may have to do some more research on that one.
Thanks guys, much appreciated.

Steering dampers only mask an underlying problem.I put progressive springs in mine, cost about £60 and new oil, this matched with Pirelli Diablo tyres and WOW  What a difference.
It still shakes its head a bit but only when I am in silly bugger mode :!:
