Thinking about doing this mod.....the air filter has a closed top, do you need to cut that out as well as the lid?
Don't ya just dig a round-a-bout!.....2003 Xtra Raptor (222/999), Gold Renthal Bars, Giannelli Pipes, Throttle Rocker, Ventura Rack, Blue LED Instrument Panel, Headlight Protector, LED Tail Light.

How does this work..?
If you cut the top out of the filter as well doesn't that negate the need for a filter at all, as all air just goes through to hit and mess up the underside of the tank...!? :?
Also does anyone know if the TL air box cover is the same, so I can experiment with a spare

it simply draws air from the bottom and the top side when you do this mod. (air is sucked in the engine, and this mod lets extra air in coming from between the tank and the airbox)
Air is filtered sideways, through the filter, into the throttle bodies :)

dunno about the TLS lid, maybe the bolt spacing is the same, but not sure it'll fit. you could go in and have a look if it fits, it's only 5 mins of work ;)

Can you take some pictures of this mod?

I'm not sure if it's a smart thing to do (scared even :? :?:) ...?

New air box

Post by booah »

Just looking at some of the mods and thought I would let you know about the new air box I have just installed. Carbon fibre unit from Extreme creations in Australia. Uses a commodore VN filter, cheap as chips here, but went with the K&N one.
When your spending the money, spend it good.
The sound of the intake can be heard over 6000 rpm and you know theres no restriction there. PCII or III next and the dyno. Ran an 11.868 in the 1/4 before this mod and I'll let you know what it is after this one.

Can you take a picture of the air box, and it's part number?
