Petrol/Water mix!!

Post by TimO »

Just got my bike back from it's 18k service. The mechanic was slightly amused at what was in my petrol tank. I had mentioned as I dropped it off in the morning that when riding the bike, every so often the motor would die then pick up again. They investigated and discovered just over a litre of water in the tank!
Apparently there's a seal that goes round the filler cap, not there on mine and there's a drain hole inside the filler which was blocked. Consequently every time it rained water made its way inside the tank.
The fuel filter was knackered but thankfully the fuel pump although slightly worse for wear lives to fight another day.
My advice, just make sure the drain hole is clear!
