Tank Slapper....well minor bar wiggle

Post by philattersall »

A really novice question..

Went out yesterday for a quick blast.

But everytime i got on the power (whilst upright) the bar would shake quite a lot. I don't want to make it sound like some hardcore tank slapper i saved, but the movement was pretty voilent.

I'm just a bit taken a back why it was happening? I did buy a new after market shock a month or so, but i've ridden hard on the same bit of road and nothing like yesterday as happened before.

I did make the 'airbox' mod (though i did a poor poor job. couldn't cut out the platic bit all that well!), but surely that hasn't made much of a difference to the power where's this would happen?

Worth checking for play in steering head/swinging arm bearings, be quite brutal with trying to heave the s/arm, they're built for big loads! steering head can be checked by leaving on side stand, place 1 finger at the frame bearing join (Top) and rock the bars, you'll feel any movement fore/aft.
The only time I get a weave is about 50m behind lorry etc, caused by turbulance. Wide/high or narrow/low bars??
