snorkel mod

Post by craigus »

i have been reading some of the old posts & i came across a post that mentions about doing a snorkel mod, i assume this means removing the snorkels & covering the hole with mesh to stop larger bits getting in the airbox, it also says that it does not add to the bhp but does increase torque has anyone done this some info would be great as my snorkels have perished & i would rather remove than replace , does this affect power delivery at 3000rpm ??????

tried the snorkel mod a time ago
didn't really work for me.(bike didn't react differently)
But take a look under the air filter in the air box, there's a real restriction!
I removed the flapper valve and opened up the airbox under the filter
That gave me some more grunt at 3/5000 rpm
Or you can try the "air box mod"described around here somewhere
Didn't do that but lots of folks seem to be happy with it!

Ehh let's find some links..

am i right in thinking that if i buy a k&n filter & do the airbox mod that i need to cut out the top of the air filter as well or do they come like that ,can this be acheived with the std air filter or is it not worth the hastle , i can not afford a pc (the missis wants to get married)so a bit worried about the fuel/air mix doing damage to the engine

They don`t come with the top cut out but it shouldn`t make any difference as the air still has to go through the filter anyway.Should help throttle response and Noise Value.
I wouldn`t bother putting a K&N in unless you can put a PC on and set it up on the dyno.
Do you have aftermarket exhausts :?:

In that case you should be OK to remove the snorkels and cut the top out but I would leave the standard air filter in until you can do the rest.
Exhausts,K&N and a PC should really go on as a package with a dyno set up to get the best out of it otherwise you could run into fuelling probs :!:

More than likely as it breathes from the inside of the filter to the outside.
Other posts explain this in more detail.
Do a search for airbox cutout and you should get a definintive answer.
I haven`t done that mod myself yet as I cannot really see any benefit for airflow :?:

I did the airbox top cut out and snorkel removal thing some time ago, have a stock filter cos have'nt got a PC111 yet. Did'nt really notice a performance gain, maybe noticable on a dyno but the induction growl alone sounds great.
Have to leave it this way cos when I first took it for a quick fang after the mod my dog chewed one snorkel to bits and was starting on the second one

I agree with zorro, I too made the airbox mod. Infact found no difference in performance. Maybe a little better on the induction sound, but that's about it. I have also taken the snorkels off. But couldn't be buggered to put them back on........
