Alternate gear ratios.....

Hi there everyone,

I´m considering to change the gear ratios a little now when its due to change the drive package.

Has anyone some experience from example 15/42 ratio or 15/40.

The original is 16/40 sprockets.

I want a good chain, any recommendations of brand?

Endless chain or with chainlock?

I still got the standard ratio on mine, and have been thinking about changing them as well.
In my opinion you best leave the front sprocket at 16t for better wear (the less teeth a sprocket has the faster it wears) and ten go for a 42t rear, thats a +/- 4% reduction off the original ,should be good for some throttle wheelies

Changed to DID x ring with rivet and esjot sprockets 11000 km's ago
They still look fresh , that cannot be said for the oem chain (rk) that was knackered after 10000 km

oh yeah of course you will be needing a slightly longer chain with the 16/ 42 setup just to be sure

I went the other way and geared it up (smaller rear sprocket), went down a couple of teeth at the rear which reduced the rpm at 100Km/hr by 500rpm (errm 4500 to 4000 I think). Made it a lot more pleasant at highway speeds, and I actually like the change in the gear spreads - I now tend to pretty much stay in one gear for most windy roads (usually 4th) if I'm fanging it I might go up and down one gear, very streetable.

Much to my surprise it wasn't a positive for Eastern creek(racetrack) though.

Thats true, as i can remember correctly a tl 1000 has a final drive of 1:3 the rap has 1:2,5 so it is lower already
