Ram air the air box

Post by Mighty Mariner »

Has anyone tried adding positive pressure to the air box (ram air)?
If you have what result did you get.
Obviously dyno is no good for comparison unless you can simulate the pressures achieved in real conditions.
I was looking at blanking one inlet off (right or left) and making a hose/duct sealed to the open side.

I know a guy who did this to a CB900 Hornet with some PVC right angle bends and sealing up the airbox etc. He picked up 6mph at the drags which is no small increase. That 6mph would be equivelent to 15hp or so a the wheel. Well worth a try. If you do, let us know your success/failures.

The drags is the ideal way to measure the success, as you are measured in speed over the line. AS you say, dynometers are no good, as you cannot simulate the speed and pressure of air at the injection. :)

you would need to be doing in excess of 80 mph for it to start working the air box is probably a bit on the small side you need the most direct flow into the airbox possible and it helps if you can achieve a funnell effect ie going from a big inlet narrowing as it goes.go ahead and give it a try.

Spare air box on way, will have to do some timed runs standard box (no snorkels) and set to in the designing. This will be one of my winter projects. :cold:
The Alto racing raptors used a ram air system on theirs with ducting through a modded petrol tank. But they used a TLR motor and modified ducati fuel injection along with major engine mods.
I will be keeping the budget as low as possible with no modiied rods or cams, all changes will be reversible and it may be ineffective but will let you know.
