Fitting NGK Iridium Spark Plugs ...

Hi , Going to fit NGK Iridium spark plugs (CR8EIX) to my 2003 Raptor 1000 shortly , wondering what gap should be on the plugs ???

I don't think Iridiums are adjustable..

So I'm thinking it might be plug time, what's your current view on these new-fangled iridiums?

Any naysayers, or yaysayers even, on my previous single/dual electrode post?

About the plugs - the Cagiva/Suzuki recommended CR8EK are twin electrode plugs, that don't need to be gapped, and last longer due to their even wear characteristics. When a spark is required it jumps to the nearest point of contact, and wears it down a smidgen, and then the next spark jumps to the nearest point of contact, etc etc, so they wear evenly. The popular Iridium CR8EIX replacements are not twin electrode, and are not OEM-recommended, I only know all this cos I bought some Iridium ones and my mechanic refused to fit them!

Those irridiums are dear, they would want to be worth a few more hp for the price , personally i would stick with cr8ek but who knows , the irridiums may be 4 times better

Yeah that's what I'm wondering, if they are any better. I did buy a pair early last year so maybe I should just fit them and find out! They weren't that exxy on fleabay, compared to the local stealerships, I think I paid just over $20 for a pair from the YUK and it looks like that's only gone up to about $25 now: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/231015422703

I just ordered a pair of NGK CR8EIX Iridium plugs off Ebay for under £14 which is the price of standard plugs at the shops so cost is no barrier.
I put one in my DRz400 years ago and it's run fine since. My feeling is that as the plugs are such a pain to get at these are the best 'fit and forget' option.
I'll report on hoe they like the Raptor once I've fitted them.

NGK website is good for 'part finding' the right plug and gap - 0.7mm as posted by Brihass.

I think the plugs are really easy to get to on the Rap saying that I did have a Buell before and that was a nightmare.

Rear cylinder is easy enough - just raise the tank and remove a wire or two.

Front one is tucked right behind the radiator . The manual seems to inply you can get at it by undoing the rad fixing bolts and presumably maneouvering it out as far as the plumbing will allow.
I decided to drain the coolant and remove the rad. Dead easy and far less likely to damage it I hope.

Plugs have arrived - now off to fit them.

Well I finally got around to testing my newly-fitted and ungapped iridiums on the weekend, and they seemed fine. NGK have heaps of info on their website, including warnings not to gap them (also on the box) -

I've replaced mine too,with iridium ones.
Runs fine,no problems and no difference too.
I'll keep them on,for at least 40000kms until the next valve clearance check.
