Conventional (Axial) vs. Radial Master Cylinders, worth reading

I think the standard cagiver master use the same as most of the earlier suzukis, tlr,sv and gsxr 15mm or 5/8 nissin, and tls were 1/2 inch fwiw

Do not change the discs unless you want to race the bike...in real life 320's are too much.

So as I said first thing to be done was a radial mc
I found this one
http://www.car.gr/parts/photos/4731685/
A 16 radial brembo from r1 2004-2006
How does it look to you?
Will it fit on the steering?and what about the mirror?

Link above doesn't work, but CT is spot on below, if it was my money I'd be doing things in this order:
  • EBC sintered pads
  • Twin (race) stainless hoses, brake fluid while you're at it
  • Radial MC
And I'll bet you a dollar that you don't get to the changing the MC and worrying about mirror mounts stage!

My HEL lines are just lovely, the Raptor 1000 ones are less then 73 Euro (http://www.helperformance.com/hel-brake ... 01-en.html), and I'd place a small wager on the specs for the 650s being the same as the 1000s, given that the discs are the same....You even have a HEL distributor in Greece, http://www.spiliotis.gr/
Crap Tartan wrote:55 years agodecent quality brake lines make a huge differance to power and feel,

all race set-ups use a single line from MC to each caliper so a constant single pressure is at each caliper.

The combination of these (never mind the improvements gained by the right type pads) will give improved power (pressure), more consistent braking (single feed) and better feel as there is less pulsing/ fluctuation due to expansion of brake line when under pressure.

Then make sure its bled correctly with fresh, good quality brake fluid!

TBH unless you are racing bikes, these simple and comparatively cheap upgrades are more than enough.

Such things as radial MC/ larger diameter discs/ upgraded calipers should be seen as more psychological factors and are only measurable improvements when applied to racing.
And please have a look at the recent post in http://www.raptorchapter.org.uk/viewtop ... 367#p30345,

Thanks!
I ll start with a fluid change and new pads to see the difference!

Thats the best start! So what brake lines does your bike have at the moment?

Whilst you are down at the front calipers, before you start, make sure all the pistons are moving in/out freely and none are sticking.

Brake lines are the stock
But those HEL are nice. After a mc I' ll think about purchasing them.
I'll clean the calipers and the pistons when I will replace the pads.

Ok the stock is a 1-2 set-up that is not as good as two seperate lines from the MC.

I would do them before an MC to be honest, more bang per buck as they say!!!

Plus with a change of MC there are all the extra issues to overcome possibly!

(longer brake lines, unmatched levers, switchgear mounting/wiring compatability)

Whenever I take my calipers off, I use small clamps to hold the pistons in, then pump one piston at a time out into the caliper, making sure I stop before popping it out completely, never seem to have any problems with them sticking.

Thats what you call preventative maintenance. do this sort of easy job regularly then you never have the problem of siezed pistons or calipers.

You seem to have your heart set on a new MC, despite repeated suggestions to do the lines first, I give up! :D

Yeah,pretty much you're right!
But both will be done propably so the order has little importance I think!
I want to make the best out of my brakes.

well then just go for it, just be aware of the additional problems a differant MC will bring and make sure you get any new brake lines custom made rather than a "Raptor" kit!

Dont forget to keep us all posted with pics on how it goes......................
