70 mph+ a nono

After a couple of offs over the last two years i have noticed that i cant got over 70mph?
Going through the gears to 4th is fine but half way through fourth there is just no more in the throttle, same in 5th?
Have the trottle cables been over stretched or is it a bigger problem?

Bit of a vague question!

125cc 650cc or 1000cc?

Why do you think the "offs" would have a bearing on the problem?

Did the problem happen suddenly, or was it gradual?

How many miles has the bike done?

How many miles since it's last service?

err 650 section.
tank slaps meant the handlebars were smacked onto tank so thought the throttle leads might be stretched.
no problem before.
But it has come on gradual
23000
about a year

OK.
Not everyone posts in the correct section.

I would suggest that you service (or have it serviced for you) the bike, make a check of plug colour and the state of the air filter.

As part of the service you will need to be checking valve clearances and TB balance.

if it is cable stretch you should be able to tell by gently opening the throttle starting at the stop and seeing how far it moves until you feel a little resistance.
But i would think it unlikely thats the problem.

I really dont think it is the throttle cables, first I would check for water in the fuel, dump all the existing fuel and have the float bowls drained if it is the carbed model. If fuel injected , try running some injector cleaner through the new fuel.

up to 3rd I can get full revs but once I am into forth and fifth it wont go beyond 6000?
I have had water in the tank from a blocked drain hole in the filler cap for years.
could be water in carbs maybe?
Will have to find how to drain the carb bowls

Defo sounds carb related

If you have run some "Dry Fuel" through it, there wont be any water in the carbs or the tank.

Have any of you used this on our bikes ?

Many on here have used "dry fuel" on their bikes to good effect. The tank venting system and filler drain are problematic on the raptors so this has often been used to solve water/fuel problems

Hello Sir!

A cup of metholated spirits in your tank, shake well ( e.g. from side to side whilst sitting on the bike ) to mix petrol and metho. The metho absorbs the water but still allows cylinder ignition. Replace/clean your fuel filter after running the tank with the metho....

Good luck
