immobilser

Post by lomax »

I have had my raptor stolen last week. :x
And have been told by my insurance claim company that it is stated in
My policy that i must have an immobiliser fitted?
At no time during form filling was i asked if it had one?
Is my steering lock classed as an immobilser ?
go to lose it if they void the insurance cos the damage they have done to it is about £1400 worth

Sorry to hear that, who are you insured with? Worth a try on the steering lock as an immobiliser, but i would be surprised if they take it.

Sorry to hear that.
1: Did you tell them in the original quote it had an immobiliser?
2: If for instance it was chucked in a van, what difference would an immobiliser make?

Sorry to hear, that really sucks.

I'm not upon British consumer law at the moment, but such a large, and key, detail should definitely have been brought to your attention at the point of sale of your insurance policy, and I suspect that your insurance company is legally obliged to keep a copy of your application which will show whether or not you were told this key fact. If you want to post up your insurance company and the type of policy you have we can search online to check what it actually says.

It could well be that a previous owner had an alarm and immobiliser fitted, and it was stated on their policy.

Alarms break and they get removed, people forget to update details. As standard Raptors don't have them fitted. I doubt a steering lock is classed as such. Personally I'd describe it as a no.

It does state on the third page about a immobiliser warranty.
But at no time during my filling out the online forms did I say it had one and the
statement of Fact only has me putting my oxford boos lock and chain as my only security feature.
When I got the policy I only checked the first two pages with my name and bike details, and then I checked the statement of fact to make sure the lock was on there.
Don't know what there response is going to be ?

What exactly does it say about the immobiliser warranty? I've never heard of such a thing!

It seems that insurance company has been happy to take your premiums, but is unhappy to return them - little surprise there.

It sounds a bit like they are chancing their arm and a little bit of pressure from you/us/the Citizens Advice Bureau (are they still going? Where's Esther Rantzen these days?!), *should* see your claim being paid.

Update...
I asked them to pull the phone call I made on setting up the policy and find where they told me it was a Immobiliser policy.
Low and behold two days later I get a call saying they are going ahead with the claim and now two weeks later I have had £1800 placed into my account.
People please keep an eye out on your policy renewals!!
I told a friend at work who checked his and his wifes.
his wifes was fine but he found on his it had a tracker fitted to the bike?
He got straight on the phone to get them to take it off.
So get checking people!!
Sorry to say that I no longer have a raptor anymore.
Got a Yamaha thundercat 600R and having fun.

Bit unfair. Poor bloke gets his bike nicked then you make him leave the forum? :o
