Sprocket nut loose.

Post by pod »

Had an interesting ride today, smelled burning oil and had the back end step out a bit.
The gearbox sprocket nut had come loose and oil was pissing out behind the sprocket.
Got to the LBS where Ali lent a hand ,thanks to North West motor cycles , who had the bits to hand the nut was stripped, new nut and tab fitted .sorted.
Motto, change your sprocket nut before 50K miles , not after.
On a long run it would have lost a lot of oil, this all happened in 30 miles or so.
You have been warned.
I was the last person at it, with a long breaker bar, RFT ( a few K miles ago) . maybe too tight, torque wrench time.
Stay calm.

A lot to be said for the right torque setting. Hence my stripped oil drain plug !
