New Pics of my 650ie - nicknamed "Jessica"
All this naming is very weird to me. I always thought people who named their transport did so to feel more comfortable because they hadn't got a clue about mechanical things and were rather frightened by them! My cars and bikes, despite my great appreciation of them, only get called by their make or...

Lagavulin, eh? Not currently to hand, but Ardbeg and Talisker are so we're reading from the same section of the book! (Not sure what this one is meant to mean, but I just liked it...)

Sounds like time for something that'll make everything alright again. I reckon a decent malt should do it! That top shock attachment is a bit of a pig. Be aware that if you fit an aftermarket shock, it will likely have a fatter alloy top eye that won't fit where the slim steel housing of the origina...

Heated Gloves
These are the ones I have. http://www.joerocket.com/gloves-1/mens-rocket-burner-textile-heated-glove Probably the only way to go if buying now. No-one had heard of lithium when I got mine, unless it was as brain medication! In truth, a few hours of battery capacity would be very adequate for ...

Cans for sale for 650 - original or aftermarket
Indeed, your post had me looking at new SV650s to see what they are like. The chassis is much neater than before, though it won't say MV Agusta on it! Did you change to get fuel injection, or was your Raptor failing?

Heated Gloves
My heated jacket-liner and gloves are quite old now, maybe 15 years, and were made by Klan who were/are Italian, I think. Both are still excellent. The jacket has 3 or 4 settings and the gloves only one but that holds my fingers at a comfortable temperature without getting too hot. I would mostly us...

Heated Gloves
Too right! I remember the agony of warming up again after a ride to work fifty years ago. Jackets with little substance, and gloves that must have been winter-spec but didn't prevent heat loss to the point of total numbness. These days, if I really want to ride in cool weather, there's a jacket line...

Spring is on the way
Those Aussie 'mileages' are a bit scary! I don't know if it is true for all relatively-modern bikes, but the Ducatis from 2000 were reckoned not to be run in before 25,000 miles, given they hadn't been abused by unsympathetic types. That was certainly true for my faithful ST4 which now approaches 40...

Spring is on the way
Well done, Sidrat/Keith! I'm saving most of the bikes until April, when they'll all get at least 6 months of tax put on them. The Canyon is taxed and gets me out when the weather is decent, so I won't forget how to ride. The Raptor will be Something Else!

Ok so i have started on the next Suspension change
Well, good luck with that. 'Flowing' the valve orifices seems to make sense given the shims are supposed to be controlling throughput rather than the orifices themselves. On suspension matters, I've just got my Nitron shock back from the makers and fitted it to the 650ie Raptor. Bouncing the back-en...

Road Trip
Oh, what model shock is it, I went with a Wilbers for mine, which is performing ok. Nitron, made in England, hurrah! I bought a Wilbers for a smart Monster 750 I had and I guess it was OK but the upgraded-and-gold-valved forks were still harsh and revealed road ripples I'd never noticed before. I'v...

Have a great ride, Trevor! At the other side of the globe, the start of the riding season is on the horizon, once the current storms pass through and the chances of frost and salt on the roads have diminished. My 1K Raptor is ready to go, and the 650's shock is back at the factory for re-valving to ...

Headlight MOT Failure
OK, here's a special offer, Sidrat! I'm just clearing out some LED H4 bulbs that don't give a good beam and would be happy to send you a pair for the price of postage or a beer. They are of the quad-cob type which I've now abandoned in favour of the Auxito brand but do, of course, give a better ligh...

Headlight MOT Failure
Not sure how to take Trevor's 'proper one' comment! The very first Raptor I came across was a V-model refinished in a flip purple/green paint-job, and with the style knob turned up to about fifteen out of ten, it really put me off! What a relief to find they made a version nearer to what I i...
