Tappet clearance check & adjustment

Hi All,

I have just stripped down my V Rap for tappet check as its now done 31000kms (don't know previous history), took off everything to allow easy access. Double and triple checked TDC and cams positions for checking and the clearances are way too tight.

Front : IN - 0.05mm, 0.05 EX - 0.09,0.10
Rear : IN - 0.06mm, 0.06 EX - 0.09, 0.09

Way too tight for recommended tolerances.

Is this normal as I've read that intakes rarely need adjusting?, it looks like they may have been checked at 12,000Kms as there are timing marks and new sealant to head gaskets.

Any advice would be gratefully received!

Thanks

Yes, even taking into account clearances will tighten rather than loosen they do seem to be way too tight.

It's also suspicious that all of them are the same 'way too tight'.

Certainly not doubting your abilities but a third check might be in order just in case, see thread https://raptorchapter.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=4603 which has a link to a Suzuki TL valve setting guide which I found v.useful.

Thanks for the great link Andy B - very helpful.

I might check my feeler gauges as well, I was suspicious that the gaps are all too similar.

Cheers

Or, of course, your measurements are correct and the clearances were incorrectly set when checked previously.
