I thought the headrace bearing were clanking but it turns out my front wheel bearing is!
I've had a front wheel bearing go - not nice when biffing along the motorway. Unfortunately they're not really protected from the elementsat all. Parts thread on this site lists them as 6005 2RS1/C3.
Forks have a misting of oil.
Again I've had the same and the friendly MOT man just gave me an advisory. And again the parts list thread gives the parts you'll need, see viewtopic.php?t=574&start=15
Front tread depth is 2.1mm/1.9mm
Friendly MOT man...
Rear brake light switch, still..
Can't help there as it's the one thing I haven't had trouble with :?

Nice tidy garage mind...

It looks to be the same size as mine in which I've got 2 bikes... one of which is a Ducati Darmah in mid restoration.

Looks very clean, how long have you been at it?

Well... initially bought him in the mid 80's, had a Brancato rebuild in the early 90's, for various reasons laid him up in the late 90s and what with time, inclination and cash started restoring him about 18 months ago.

Complete strip down but only the top end on the engine mind. Luckily it was garaged during that time and Brancato's build had anti-seized pretty much everything so it wasn't in a particularly bad way. Looks clean because the frame has just been wet painted & the barrels/head vapour blasted.

It's nice to dither about with mechanical bits & pieces with no time pressure so I haven't set myself a target date but late spring next year would be good.

Andy, you are shaming me!

I've had a 1975 Suzuki GT550 triple 2-stroke in pieces for far too long. All the engine work has been done at considerable expense but I've not yet found/made time to assemble it. Plenty of 4-stroke twins have come and a few gone in the time the GT has been waiting for it's turn. In case you haven't tried one, they are reasonably torquey but the main joy comes in the soundtrack! Fortunately, modern synthetic oil has banished the 2T smokescreen, though you'd still smell one in front.

Maybe we should have a joint completion date; your Darmah and my GT, also known as the Indy in the US.

Nick

I must admit I'm trying my hardest not to put a completion date on it - that only puts more pressure on and that's when mistakes are made. As mentioned before the doing is the thing :D

Yeah, I was never a 2 stroke man but in my youth I always liked the GT's with the Ram Air being the visual attraction. Again, I waited until I had the desire to start the restoration, otherwise it just becomes a task and not a pleasure.

But spring next year would be good for me!

Splendid! I reckon I was in the same downpour. Sheesh, for the complete 40 mins commute it absolutely hammered it down & like you not a single misfire.

So yesterday evening started with 2 stuck bolts.. offending articles here. It was purely the head that was stuck as both bolts had anti seize on them. Rounded the allen bolts, then brayed a torx bit into them and that rounded.. trip to screwfix for £4 extrators which I thought would just snap and Presto.

Breaker bar.. ish.
Image
Weird brain fart last night, totally confused by the headstock lift which I've had years, I just couldn't figure it so I jacked the bike up and let it down on top of it.
Image
Then I had to jack it up again to get the wheel out.
Image
Furry.

Greasy.

Tools of choice.
Image
The O rings baffled me on the centre bit, anyone got a name for it?
Image
Decided it was time to strip the rest for the headrace replacing, regretted that instantly. Snap snap snap!
Image
Image
Image
Won't be long until this wears through.. tester thought the whole hugger was sat on the wheel
Image
Had to WD40 the forks, corrosion is bad on those.
Image
Headlight
Image
The offending bent bar, I knew it wasn't right when it crushed my thumb on full lock but I never clicked!
Image
Top yoke off, equally as orange as everywhere.
Image
Image

The next day (today) I fetched some new bearings that I picked up locally for £15.20.. which I thought wasn't cheap to be fair they're SKF. Then I realised the O rings must be there to help locate the axle locator bar thing? Maybe?

Finished getting the yokes off.
Image
Image
Weapons of choice to get the bottom race off it's seat.
Image
Made a mess of this shim but straightened it in the vice, I'm not sure if it's weather proofing or has a purpose but I rotated under the bearing freely before I bent it. There is also a washer under that?
Image
Image
The races, can see why it was notchy there were some good burrs in there.
Image

How I've left it this evening.
Image

Ordered a Falco rear shock and linkage off eBay for £37. Brake light switch (goodridge) £19, need to order headrace bearings and possibly shock linkage bearings.. should be back on the road for under £100 though hopefully.. I don't know if I dare check the swingarm bearings while the back is in bits. 10 day free retest is 8 working days away tomorrow.

Took some effort to post.

Disclaimer; if your stupid enough to think that balancing a bike on wood looks easy and decide to have a go and crush yourself, because of this, please video it. I nearly dropped the bike doing this on my own and would not recommend it to anyone.. in fact I've got a hook ffrom an RSJ in my garage roof but left the lift at my dad's.
