Rear Master Cylinder

Post by Evil Twin »

Had an issue with a overheated rear disc that locked the wheel and cracked the disc. No damage got of the road OK and kudo's to the young girl on her probationary license who used her car to block others from going around, another vehicle turning right, and hitting me. Thankyou.
Couldn't release the rear caliper and had to let fluid out. Then when I changed disc and pads I couldn't push both pads back at the same time, send fluid back to reservoir. Or bleed the brake once the pads were changed. It seems the plunger had been adjusted to the point where the reservoir gallery was never exposed, possibly to try and shorten lever travel. As such I had been riding with a closed hydraulic circuit and not become aware untill the extra heat/ expansion issue became one. All fixed now and happy. Maybe something to look at if you've bought second hand. Should be able to see fluid return to reservoir when you push both the pads back. Don't forget to pump them back after though.
The bike made me do it!
