Raptor 1000 Left Engine cover center nut oil leak

Post by Zane »

Hi guys,

had a persistent oil leak from the nut in the center of the LHS engine cover. Had replaced the rubber seal with no joy, and could not find a way to stop the oil from leaking.

Comes out that a company called three bond creates a product that won't damage the rubber seal, can handle the heat of an engine and that is not effected by oil. It has been a God send product. Three Bond 1104

Best thing for oil leak issues.......

Glad to be of help. The stuff has been great no issues of leakage at all. I even spoke with the manufacturer of the 1104 Three bond product and they told me that Suzuki and Ducati Australia use the stuff.......

At least now I don't have to worry if any oil is left in my engine...

i'm using a special kind of stuff as well. it's the only way to get the clutch cover sealed (in my case).
Helps to seal that generator bolt as well, because that too is a source of many leaks!

it's blue, and it's some kind of liquid gasket goo. 8) forgot the brand name though

eerrrrrm  can I ask a stupid question

Mine appears to be leaking from this point.....the nut. Not technical at all but always willing to have a go. If I bought some of this sealent. What do I actually need to do. ie I don't know what I should undo, losen, or not touch....do I leave oil in?

As some of you know, I like to try and fix withouth help of OH, so at least if it looks like too much for me i can tell him how to do it

Hylomar should be good for the job. as far as I know the nut can be taken out without any loss of oil as I had mine off to check the timing last year. If you lose any oil its probably down to having too much on there in the first place :o

Undo the nut, smear a small amount of Hymolar around the seal and tighten down - cant remember if it has a torque setting, but again I'm almost certain I just tightened mine down.

If I can do it so can you :happyhappy:

This looks like a generally useful one
Hylomar Universal Blue can be used to seal joint faces or threaded parts. It is effective for sealing metal to metal and plastic to plastic. Typical applications include water & oil pumps, instrument inspection covers, cylinder heads, oil sumps, intake manifolds, timing case covers, gearbox & transmission housings and as a coating for pre-formed gaskets.
or silicone one
Hylosil - 'Typical applications include crankshaft housings, sumps, gearboxes and water pumps
