Seat Cowl/hump removal

Post by roxy-raptor »

Ok this is probably a stupid question but.....
How is the seat cowl removed?
The bike came with the seat cowl on and I never looked at it with it off.
There is a bolt under each side of the cowl towards the front of the bike, but on examination they look like whatever they fix to under the cowl has broken off!!!
This is looking expensive...... :(

Thanks for any advice.

i think you are looking at the right bolts.they are allen bolts with a small spacer.i removed my seat hump soon after buying my bike.as i remember i carefully un did the bolts and again very carfully pried of the seat hump.it all feels abit fraggile.there were some plastic tabs were the bolts went through that were cracked & broken.i managed to glue mine with aralidite.i dont think the seat hump would put up with being taken on and off on a regular bassis.hope this is of some help.clive

Unfortunately i think the seat hump was designed to look pretty on pictures and in the showrooms. Cagiva didn't actually expect them to be removed and re-fitted very often by the look of it
I don't think i got any more than 5 re-fits of mine from brand new before it gave up the ghost

Thanks both,
I only really wanted the cowl off to clean the seat.....

Raptorfan, mine looks the same. The bolts go therough spacers and through some plastic. The plastic has obviously broken off both sides as on closer inspection I can actually see it. Looks like I will have to carefully hold the nut to get the bolts out then look at a fix, superglue or specialist plastic welding when I finally get the cowl off.
Will leave it for now as after next month the bike will go into hibernation.........to come out in the spring fully serviced, with rebuilt forks and a matching belly pan........but the list is getting expensive as a carbon cowl is £240  .......
Not sure what part of the plastic the bolt goes through (maybe seat side fairing) ..........so flebay may get some use over the coming months.
Weirdo, once its done the cowl will go back on and stay there. dont take pillions and OH can pack his bike on the tours/rallies
