v twin 20w 50 oil putoline

Post by sybchef81 »

My local bike shop has recommended using a v twin oil 20w 50 in the raptor 1000 has any one used this or shall I stick with a semi synthetic 10w 40 bear in mind she has 30 years experience in bike mechanics

That's what I thought it is a high performance engine really but didn't want to go into that with her. I know oils will degrade within 500 miles so the 20w 50 would end up being a 10w 40 maybe that's the reason

I wouldn't use a higher weight oil, 10w40 is the recommended and I've always used that. for my mileage that's 40 or so oil and filter changes.

I understand that Moto Guzzis and maybe Harley Davidsons use 20w50. different type of V twin.

I've never heard that before. It's 10 40, in all the bikes I've had, two SV, two VRaptors, Zzr1400.....

Quite right dizzy, also this oil is the best suited for the clutch that can slip if wrong type of oils used.

With TL1000S engine you should always use 10W40..
Last summer I used full synthetic oil and I noticed clutch slipping on full throttle, my local spare parts dealer who've had TL in past recommended Motorex Semi synthetic oil, he said that full synthetic oil is too fine for TL-engine. He also said that if my clutch is still slipping I should get EBC Street Racer clutch kit..
