Newbe questions and Hi

Hi All.

First of all Hi to you all.

Just bought a 2001 Raptor 1000cc its got 20k and a runner. I bought it blind, the seller was very good loads of info, photos and feedback. Shes in pretty good order. Needs things doing(don’t we all!) but the price was right so no grumbles. Looking forwards to emerging in the spring when the tlc will be complete.......hopefully!

Questions.
Sensible mods. I see the side stand can be an issue.
Shes wearing Pirelli Angel st shoes at the mo (needs replacement) Just wondering what a sensible choice.

Anything else?

Spares.
Bodywork spares seems to be in rocking horse poo territory.
The engine and i guess electrical stuff is Suzuki so that side should be okay.

Any specialist dealers in the UK or EU or World even. My google searches aren’t coming up with much.

Any advice welcomed.

Bill

Welcome to the asylum!

Most of the day to day stuff is available, check the site for equivalents! OEM have some parts but they are expensive. Yes body parts are rare, ask here first as some of us have spares or try ebay.

Off the top of my head...
Rear sprocket is a funny size ID .. not quite the hedgeabuser one!
If you experience problems around 3k revs there is a fix
There is a drain hole in the filler cap, make sure its clear or you will get water in the fuel
There is a drain hole on the front cylinder head by the plug, again make sure its clear
Look after your radiator, they are impossible to get and so far as i know no-one has found an easy replacement!

Otherwise search here and ask , there are some very technical and long term owners here and we are all quite friendly :nerner:

Oh my guilty error.... and If you get an F1 error and it wont start... before you investigate further check some bugger hasn’t used the kill switch!

:woot:

Welcome in Ciderbegood,
I did a post about finding spare parts and also has parts lists here viewtopic.php?f=11&t=5010

www.trenditaly.com still makes body panels in carbon and fibreglass (VTR)

Don't forget to use the search bar in the top right corner when looking for information.
Cheers,
Joe

Thank you both for your info.

The journey begins. Fork seals to do first then the cosmetics.

Many thanks.

All the best.
Bill

Ciderbegood,

Good luck with your fettling of the Raptor. I'm sure you'll find it an exciting and satisfying ride when you've got it right.

Among the things to look out for are corrosion in the electrical connectors (a dose of ACF-50 works wonders) and the state of the shock linkage, which catches all the weather and dirt from the road.

Would I be right to guess that you reside in the West Country? Then again, it might just be you don't like beer!

Cheers,

Nick, from Norfolk

Yo! welcome on in Bill.
Shes wearing Pirelli Angel st shoes at the mo (needs replacement) Just wondering what a sensible choice.
I use Metzeler Roadtecs on my daily, 50 mile round trip, commute and have nothing but praise for them especially when cold & wet. They are a bit pricey mind and previous to fitting those I've had good experiences with Michelin Pilots, both 3 & 4.
Fork seals to do first

Again thank you for your replies.

Cider. Yes I live in Gloucester and was converted from hop to fermented Apple juice. Still like ipa and the like though.

Electrics. Thanks Yes. I’ll go through the connections checking for corrosion.

Tyres. I’ll look into the Metzelers also have a read up of the threads. Always good to get points of view.

I’ve just bought a pair of carbonfibre look silencers of fleabay. A little bit of work to do to the metalwork. But they’ll fit with the overall look I want to get. Just need a local metalpolisher fabricator now!

Thank you both.
Cheers
Bill
