MOT time - how many miles on the clock this year

Post by HiFi »

Xrap was MOT tested today which prompted me to look back at previous tests...

Seems like my usage is up this year with a massive 590 miles recorded :D

Haha okay, not a lot compared to some.... but between 2019 and 2021 I recorded 16 miles

Yes that's an unbelievable sixteen miles in three years, I am ashamed

What's the least you've ever done on your bikes!?

I normally do between 8000 and 10000 miles a year, bit one more than one bike.

I try not to put too many miles om the raptor, its had two MOT's since i have owned it 2,784 in the first year and 1,223 in th elast year, but i did buy a new Aprilia and put 9000 miles on it in its first year. I looked at the trak day bike (now sold) and it did 389 miles last year. No idea on the race bike, but we run it in endurance so its running between 4 and 12 hours per round over six rounds!

That makes last years total 10,612.

Nowhere near the highest which was way back in the 80's was 26,000 miles

Haha that's good to hear :D I've convinced myself too and ridden mine to work this week. Still a few weeks of summer left so hopefully the odometer won't be so full of spiders webs!

You're all putting me to shame: my Raptors are sitting awaiting their turn as I ride the Gran Canyon to do assessment of a new Schuberth helmet and modifications thereof. I really thought the C5 helmet might be acceptibly quiet after they'd gone through several previous iterations, C3 especially. Not so; this is one noisy hat from 45mph upwards! It may be better, as they suggest, on truly naked bikes, but all my screened bikes are fitted with custom low slippery designs that worked well with my old and mouldy FM helmet. So much for progress and Germanic attention to detail! :x

Absolutely, and proper audiologist-made ones too. Apart from protecting my ageing hearing, I'm very keen on wafting through the air in relative silence so that the ride is dream-like and I can enjoy the motor's sound, not that of the wind. After several experiments, I reckon the noise from the Schuberth C5 is due to a gratuitous flange around the base, so the next trial is to wrap that area in long-pile fur fabric to slow the airflow. All good fun! :)

Excellent! There are some very colourful fur fabrics on offer, though I've gone for boring black. It does make me wonder what the aerodynamic effect would be with full helmet cover. After all, sound recordists working outside use fluffy covers for their mikes. It could be a whole new trend! :haha:

So from 2016 the 'ol Raptor did the following in each year, 9k miles, 12k, 10k, 10k, 10k and then 1,300 miles & 2,500 miles.

And, of course, the last two were due to Covid and furlough/working from home
