Throttle assembly repairs/mods
G'day all,
my bike ('05 Raptor 1000) was knocked over by a useless forklift driver last week . The damage is very minor, however I am finding it very hard to find parts here in Australia. On the up side my helmet was a very good crash knob (was on right mirror) and now I get to pick out a new one at the expense of the operator!!
The main problem is that the locator pin in the throttle assembly has broken and therefore the assembly tends to spin around the pro taper bars a bit. If I can't find a complete assembly, has anyone else had this problem and fixed this pin or found another non-dodgey way of stopping the throttle from spinning?
The front brake lever also broke and thanks to this site I have found a replacement lever at wemoto. However, if I decide to 'bling' my bike up a bit, does anyone know of some after market sites that have quality parts such as levers, mirrors, carbon bits etc to fit raptors?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated
well I've bored you all long enough,
cheers and stay upright

Hi Boofhead,
I'd just wrap some tape around the 'bar to thicken things up a wee bit, then clamp to that. It shouldn't need much.
Must be worth a try.

Hi Boofhead,
My Rappy had its bars changed for Renthal ones by a previous owner as he dropped the bike and bent the originals. To fit them he filed off the locating pins on both the left and right switchgear.
I got OEM bars recently and a wrap of insulating tape twice around the bars was enough to stop them spinning. You have to tighten the Phillips-head screws pretty tight but don't over-tighten and don't allow the driver to slip and round off the heads!
If you put the tape just inside the line of the holes in the bars it's an invisible fix.
Cheers, Bfef.

Re: Throttle assembly repairs/mods
I repaired one on another bike. I drilled a hole where the pin used to be, put a superglue in the hole and screwed in a small screw about the same diameter externally as the pin. After it set, I cut the head of the screw off and filed it a bit smooth and had a new pin.
Worked for a few years and then sold the bike.
Maybe you should stop trying to get the last few revs out of the poor old motor
