Replace rear spring or shock?
Re: Replace rear spring or shock?
I think shedmonkey means that spacer might solve your rear shock problem ( weaken spring ) by adding spring load.shedmonkey wrote:the cheapest option might be get a spacer made at a local engineering shop
I understood that you had problem with rear shock right ?Dante wrote:For the front?
Wont the springs improve the situation?
Now you are buying springs to front and rear and also front fork oil... If you have a problem only with rear just buy new rear spring and service your rear spring. Only changing front oil makes big difference to front feel if you have old wore oil in it.

Re: Replace rear spring or shock?
The spacer might temporarily solve it.
I want a better solution...
Yes I had issue with the rear but I m thinking of upgrading and the front at the same time,in order to finish for some time with the suspensions.

Re: Replace rear spring or shock?
Yes sorry i meant for the rear spring. I think i would go the R1 forks for the front as i have tried the spacers new front springs different oil etc and found no great benefit but must say i havnt done the R1 forks yet. Someone on here tried modifying the damper tubes but i cannot remember if that made any difference.

Re: Replace rear spring or shock?
Difference between the xrap and standard forks must be night and day, i remember sitting on a standard raptor some time ago and it felt very soft , nothing like my current bike which i think handles very well considering! I think the rear shocks are very undersprung if your anything over a featherweight
Re: Replace rear spring or shock?
So you suggest that for the front I shouldn't do anything more?
I have no problem with the front, but I thought that a pair of springs will certainly improve it.
I 'll see if a make just an oil change there.Unfortunately I can't afford to change the fork.
For the rear I'll just change the spring.
PS.I think I'm quite light,73 kg without the equipment etc.

Re: Replace rear spring or shock?
Unless you can upgrade the forks complete, other than oil change there is no great improvements to be made at the front.
A cheap secondhand set of R1 firks should be on your wish list.
Are you still interested in my rear spring? It is now cleaned and removed from shock ready to post.

Thanks Crap but I ll go for a new one!Propably a Hyperpro.
I thought that I would improve the rear sooner or later so why not do it now.
And sorry if I put you in any trouble with the shock.

Re: Replace rear spring or shock?
No worries, Dante
Hope the hyperpro works for you, si if you dont mind, how much is it?
I have seen R1 forks (97-00) going for around £100 on ebay average, sometimes cheaper so worth keeping an eye out..................
They sort all the standard issues out, suit the bike and have loads of useful adjustability depending on your style etc.

Hyperpro spring here in Greece is about 90 pounds.
Later on,I ll keep my eye on ebay to see if I find a good offer fot the fork.
Although I'm not sure if I want to go that far modding the bike.
We'll see.

Re: Replace rear spring or shock?
I changed last winter front forks, rear shock and raising triangles. I can tell you, it made a big difference !
I think you should start saving money for better front forks and rear shock, its worth every penny !

Re: Replace rear spring or shock?
To tell the truth I don't want to spend so much money on such improvements since I haven't even reached the limit of the stock bike.
Also I plan to sell it in a few years and I consider it a waste spending now 600-700 euros and at 3 years they won't worth nothing to the next owner as they don't add up to the selling price.
If I had the possibily to keep the bike I would do it but ,my next bike will be an 1000cc SS and a smaller 125 cc one which will be used in city and unfortunately the Raptor will have to leave.
Thats why I'm considering improving it but at a reasonable cost.
