No Back Brake

Post by phil555race »

Went round a corner and my back brake pedal went to the floor.
Pads are good and no leaks?

Anybody help?

Thanks

Back Brake

Post by Miz »

Can you let us have a bit more info.

What sort of journey had you just been on?

Do you use your back brake a lot when riding?

How old is the bike?

Any info could be helpful.

If you pump the brake, does the pressure come back?

No Back Brake

sounds like air try undoing the caliper and tying it as high above the resivour as poss leave overnight and then put a couple of large washers between the pads and blead all the fluid

G'day

I had exactly the same problem a month ago. No back brake, pedal all the way down. By the time I had home/to a mechanic, brake was back! On advice from this forum, I bled the brakes (I replaced ALL the fluid) and so far, touch wood, no further problems. Neither I, nor the mechanics have any idea why it happened (no leaks). If anything, the rear brake fluid reservoir was over full (significant? who knows?) Most likely air in the system.

Cheers

Very often problem to Raptors.
Cure: change fluid and bleed as good as possible. :)

You can't bleed the rear brake without removing the caliper, lifting it up so that it's the highest point in the rear brake system and jamming something between the pads. You will not bleed all of the air if you don't...

Had this problem very recently wasn't riding the bike, just took the footpeg hangers off to polish 'em. when it all came back together- no back brake. It appears that the master cylinder plunger 'sticks'. gonna give it a good clean out. the procendure for removing the piston (in the rear master cylinder) is just a case of removing the circlip and it should all fall out?

Strip and clean the m/c and caliper. the state of mine was pretty shocking internally.

Back Brake

Hi,

Have you drained all the fluid, cleaned out the system and replace the fluid with new, also have you stripped the caliper and master cylinder to ensure that everything is free.

If you have not, you need to.

hi

took the caliper off and have drained all the fluid, when pushing the pistons back noticed the outside one seemed a lot harder to push back?

i didnt want to split the caliper as i do not know what is in there and how it comes apart?

to bleed the system do i need to put the pads back in and put somthing between them?

thanks
